An International Culinary Affair!

Posted By South Florida Hub, Sunday, March 22, 2015

South Florida Hub hosted yet another successful event!

We had food from China, Colombia, Haiti, Mexico, Germany and many many more! Members and alumni were tested on their knowledge of AIESEC through game of AIESEC scramble! Jo (LCP), Kelsey (VPBD) and Chris (VPAD) updated us on the Local Committee’s activities and traineeship program. We are very excited about the accomplishments of the Local Committee.

On behalf of AIESEC Life, South Florida Hub and the Local Committee, I thank you for your continual support!

Cheers,

AIESEC Under the Stars

Posted By South Florida Hub, Friday, December 12, 2014
Updated: Sunday, March 22, 2015

*Late Recap Post, event took place Dec. 12, 2014*

We had a wonderful and successful event at our fellow alumni Al and Patsy Merritt’s residence. Despite the chilly “Miami Winter” weather, we had a great turn out, about 40 alumni and members all gathered to celebrate AIESEC!

Thank you to all that made it possible, all the alumni from five decades, members that are making magic happen at the local committee, trainees that drove all the way from Plantation Florida and specials guests for making this night as special as it was! Thank you again!

A special thank you to Johanna Cardoza (LCP 2015), Alex Campo (Vice President of External Relations 2015), Al and Patsy Merritt, Tom Browne, Gerardo Monsalve & Daniel Siclait for planning this event.

Happy holidays and a happy new year!

May 2012: Alumni Event Recap

Posted By South Florida Hub, Thursday, September 25, 2014

Alumni and students alike enjoyed the rich interaction over this past weekend during the AIESEC Life Alumni Weekend in Miami Beach.  Over two dozen alumni and students gathered on Saturday, April 28 on the campus of Florida International University for an enjoyable Alumni Day. The agenda offered time for the alumni and students to mix over a savory lunch and then hear from the panel of experienced alumni on how AIESEC impacted their lives.

While all enjoyed the nuggets of wisdom offered by the alumni, the biggest smiles surfaced during the alumni:student scavenger hunt where the attendees hustled around the banquet room eager to find "individuals" of various profiles (ie, Find somone who has picked up a trainee from the airport.")   Later on, those smile turned to looks of serious concentration as several alumni stepped up and participated in a mock call session with the eager-to-learn students. Other alums gathered with AIESEC Life Executive Director, Karen Thigpen, in a neighboring conference room to discuss launching the new hub's calendar for the year.

Most importantly, the students walked away with a renewed sense of alumni support, inspiration for their AIESEC careers, and a handful of willing alumni candidates for their BOAs.

Later that evening, alumni and students reconvened on South Beach's infamous Ocean Drive to enjoy food, music and dancing at the highly-acclaimed Cuban eatery, Lario's on the Beach.   The energy brought to the dance floor that night left no question for any onlookers that the AIESECErs (of present and past) had, indeed, arrived and taken over. For the alumni there, it most certainly felt like old times.

August 2012: Alumni Reunion in S. Florida

Posted By South Florida Hub, Thursday, September 25, 2014
by Karen Raiti Thigpen (MI ‘96/US ‘97)

Alumna Angelica "More” Aguilera organized former AIESECers from throughout South Florida to gather for a fun-in-the-sun weekend of old and new friends over the weekend of August 5th-7th.  Angelica, who served as a member of AIESEC Mexico in 1987 and currently resides in Boca Raton, FL, opened her home and hometown for a weekend that encompassed dinner on the streets of South Beach and a pool party/BBQ at her home.  More than 80 alumni gathered over the course of the weekend with some traveling in from as far as Mexico to reunite with friends from days of old.  Enrique Chauca, former president of AIESEC Peru and supporter of AIESEC Life, attended the event and when asked why he thinks alumni traveled from so far to attend the event he answered, "to keep the passion alive!”.  He continued, saying, "I have found out that people participate as alumni because they want to keep having fun, meeting AIESEC alumni and meeting people with open minds all over the world”.
