Winter Mixer 2015

Posted By Mark Alpert, Friday, December 25, 2015

On December 10th, 2015, about 30 AIESEC alum from across generations and continents gathered for a mixer at Yard House restaurant in the Atlantic Station area of Atlanta, Georgia. It was one of the best turnouts AIESEC Life Atlanta has seen in several years.

The AIESEC Life Atlanta Hub Team was extremely excited and grateful to see such a large turnout and hope to only continue to grow as we continue to engage AIESEC alum in the metro Atlanta area.
Amongst the attendees on December 10th were previous AI members, previous MC members from Turkey, Ghana and the US, current trainees, and many others.
Below are some photos from the event.

Our next official event is expected to be in late February 2016 as part of the national ALUMNites campaign.
If you's like to host a non-formal event before then, let us know. We'll help you reach out to alumni.

To join our alumni network, join us as a free or paid member HERE.
Connect with our hub and Facebook pages for updates.

Again, thanks to all who came and we look forward to connecting with more alumni next time!
Happy Holidays!

AIESEC Trainees at UPS Go on an Epic Road Trip to Louisville

Posted By Atlanta Hub, Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Nothing says AIESEC quite like a road trip, too little sleep, and lots of folks from all over the world!

A Fun-packed Road Trip to Louisville

On Tuesday, August 7, Paul Hamill (AIESEC Miami, ‘84-86) took a group of 12 AIESECers doing traineeships with UPS in Atlanta on a memorable trip up to UPS’ Air Hub in Louisville, Kentucky. They were up at the crack of dawn to embark on the six-hour drive up to Louisville, where they were to discover the true extent of UPS’ operations.

The 12 trainees (six getting ready to return home, and six new ones about to start their 18-month traineeships), came from 11 different countries ranging from Russia to Brazil or even Vietnam.

Paul had organized for three giant SUV’s to come pick them up at 5:30 a.m. (the ongoing joke for the trip was that they were the CIA in their mysterious SUVs!) and, in true AIESEC fashion, made sure that they stopped for dinner across the Ohio river so that the trainees could cross Indiana off of their list of states to visit.

Exploring the UPS Air Hub

The group arrived in Louisville around 3:00 p.m. and were treated to a tour of UPS’ Air Hub. They visited the warehouse and discovered the detailed workings of UPS’ mail system - how they receive packages and sort them, and even the special temperature-controlled rooms required for medical customers’ packages.

That wasn’t the best part though. The troupe came back at 11:00 p.m. for the real show: airplanes arriving at the UPS airport and the trajectory packages follow after off-boarding. Each night, the UPS hub in Louisville receives and sorts over 4 million packages (and even more during the holidays!). The trainees rode a bus around the airport following packages around to see where they go, how each is sorted into its appropriate container, and the college students who make the entire operation possible. Fun fact: UPS employs thousands of students to work at the Air Hub at night and, in exchange, funds their tuition.

Exhausted when their tour ended at 2:00 a.m., the trainees returned to their hotel for a quick nap before their ride home at 7:00 a.m. (does this remind anyone else of not sleeping enough at AIESEC conferences?!).

Warm Memories

They all had wonderful things to say - both about the road trip and their traineeships at UPS.

“I love UPS and the US so much! This is one of the best decisions I have ever made… Everyone at UPS was so nice, which really made my experience great. I don’t want to go home!”

- Chi Hoang, Trainee at UPS from Vietnam

To the trainees going home, we will miss you! And to the new trainees, we can’t wait to hear about your next adventure!

Global Atlanta Euro Jazz Trio Event

Posted By Atlanta Hub, Wednesday, July 29, 2015

A couple of AIESEC Alumni and supporters were very instrumental in supporting the visit of Emil Viklicky’s Euro Jazz Trio performance on Sunday, June 28th at the Kopleff Recital Hall in Atlanta, GA. Jerry Allison (AIESEC US board member) and Eric Joyner (AIESEC Georgia State board member) each donated towards the event.  AIESEC members from all three Atlanta LCs were in attendance including UPS trainees. At least 4 alumni were in attendance: Cristina Lara, Bior Bropleh, Borbi Bropleh and Benedict Murunga.

AIESEC Life Atlanta Hub recently held two events as part of the Spring Outreach Campaign

Posted By Atlanta Hub, Thursday, March 26, 2015

AIESEC Life Atlanta Hub recently held two events as part of the Spring Outreach Campaign.

After a short break caused by the heavy snow storms(!) and severe winter conditions(!) in Atlanta, AIESEC alumni and active members in Atlanta area gathered again for a happy hour event at the Yard House on Thu, Feb 26 and like the previous events in the same place, we had a pretty good turnout one more time.. A total of 16 AIESECers (7 alumni and 9 active members) attended and enjoyed the good food, drinks and the great conversations until late night - it seemed as if everyone wanted the event to last forever! ;)

Our second event was at the Park Tavern on last weekend, Sat, Mar 21, and 9 AIESECers (3 alumni and 6 active members) enjoyed the great weather and the beautiful Midtown skyline over the Piedmont Park! A big thank you to all those who made it to these events -especially to Christina Jin, Cristina Lara, Michael Maples, Shireen Khan and Knut Baalerud who came to their first AIESEC Life events ever or within the last one year.

Besides bringing new faces to our alumni events, another goal for the Spring Outreach Campaign is to help our Local Committees to gain more business referrals in an effort to raise more traineeships. So, please take a few minutes to check your contact lists on LinkedIn, your phone address books, business card organizers (do you really still have one?) and if you come across a name who might be interested in taking AIESEC trainees, please go ahead and submit the details by using the following link. Active AIESEC members will greatly appreciate your help and will follow up the next steps!

Levent Gencoglu
AIESEC Life Atlanta Hub Leader

(AIESEC in Turkey MC VP External Relations 05-06

Sept 2013: Alumni gather and have a blast at the Summer National Conference in Atlanta

Posted By Atlanta Hub, Monday, October 27, 2014
(Karen Raiti Thigpen - MI '96/ US '97)

Several dozen alumni, trainees and guests gathered on Tuesday, August 6 at the Holiday Inn Airport North in Atlanta hoping to network with one another, show support for the AIESEC community and capture a bit of the energy that is contagious at every AIESEC US Summer National Conference.  The students and members of the AIESEC US national team welcomed in the alumni with open arms and a willingness to hear any advice the alums would dish out.

The alumni portion of the event started off with a Happy Hour where past presidents mingled, new friends connected and laughter was heard everywhere.  Alumni then moved into the main banquet hall for a memorable dinner with the students. Annual award were presented and several alumni were recognized for their outstanding service as members on the Board of Advisors to the three local committees in Atlanta: Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and Georgia State.  Students and alumni alike clapped loudly as annual awards were issued to the attending local committees and the cheering roared when two alumni-supported scholarships were issued.  The JoAnn Boland International Scholarship Fund was issued first to two particularly promising students (Eli Peterson of Madison and Dominic Smith of Michigan) who each received $500 to attend the International Congress in Egypt.  Secondly, Sebastian Zhong of San Jose State University, was awarded the GBA Faye Liebowitz Scholarship - a brand new, $1,000 scholarship offered for being the top-traineeship raiser in the United States. This scholarship, initiated by alumna Cathy Shelton with a $15,000 grant, was established earlier this year and Sebastian is the first in the country to receive such a prize.  Congratulations, Sebastian!

During the event, Atlanta-area alumni said a farewell and thank you to Param Randhawa who has faithfully served as the Atlanta Hub Leader since 2011.  He will be stepping down this Fall and succeeded by Levent Genconglu.

August 2012: Alumni at SE RoKS

Posted By Chicago Hub, Thursday, September 25, 2014

This past month AIESEC Life Atlanta had the very great privilege to attend the AIESEC Regional Southeast conference in Alpharetta!

Over 20 AIESEC Alumni spanning 3 generations took part in a lunch sponsored by AIESEC Life, as well as helped to lead sessions for over a hundred AIESECers in attendance from major schools including UGA, Georgia Tech, Miami, UNC and App State.

Students appreciated the opportunity to connect with and learn from AIESECers from across the world and the country, as well as how AIESEC prepared us for our current professional lives. Alumni loved the chance to re-live their AIESEC experience and connect with Alumni and students in an informal, unique and interactive event.

Please look forward to more emails and updates from your local AIESEC Life team over the next few weeks!

Thanks for your support,
AIESEC Life Atlanta

May 2012: AIESEC Life Atlanta Explores the Evolution of Communication

Posted By Atlanta Hub, Thursday, September 25, 2014

The AIESEC Life Hub in Atlanta had its first event on April 24th on the topic of "The Evolution of Communication in Business”.  Michal Flood (Georgia Tech ’97) and Drew Evangelista (Georiga Tech ’97) did an excellent job presenting the topic to 20 attendees.  They gave a timeline reaching all the way back to the beginning of recorded time and showed how communication evolved along with business throughout those years.

As a new hub and a new steering committee, the AIESEC Life Atlanta group decided that they needed a kick-off event that could bring students, alumni, trainees and BOA members together in an informal setting to meet and discuss a relevant current topic: how has Communication evolved in the past 10, 15, 20, 100 years. The discussion was led by Michal Flood and Drew Evangelista, both alumni with a deep and broad background in the communications industry, with a collective 25 years working for Fortune 100 telecom companies.

Thanks to our efforts, we were able to bring 25-30 people including current AIESECers from Georgia Tech, UGA and Georgia State university, trainees from Mexico and Brazil, as well as alumni from a dozen LCs. The attendees, young and old, deeply appreciated the perspective of alumni who've been in an organization run on the idea of effective communication to deliver quality international experiences over 40 years and in 100 different countries.

If you have any further questions or comments, please email

Following are pictures of the event.
