1. Describe what you do now for Ashoka.

I work as a Talent and Operations Associate at Ashoka. I am responsible for all of the talent operations at the intersection of human resources, finance, and the law. I help support the organization in over 40 countries by overseeing new staff onboarding, strategic budget planning for staff, compensation, legal compliance, and occasionally act as a liaison between the global and country offices in order to effectively execute policy.

2. Describe the highlights of your AIESEC career.

I began my AIESEC career as a member of the Account and Deliver Team at AIESEC Chapel Hill. A few weeks later, I became Vice President of Talent Management for 2012 and was Local Committee President of AIESEC Chapel Hill in 2013. While LCP, I was also a member of the AIESEC United States Steering Team.

3. How were you selected to attend the conference?

Ashoka is partners with Forbes and we contribute to the Forbes Blog, so they gave the organization a certain number of attendance spots and I was selected as one of the lucky attendees!

4. Who were the most memorable guest speakers and why?

The closing and opening speakers for the conference were definitely the most memorable. Malala Yousafzai, the youngest ever noble peace prize recipient, was the closing speaker for the conference. It was amazing to hear her speak about her experience as an advocate for girl empowerment and the struggles she faced. Her commentary left us all feeling our capacity to create change more than ever. The opening speaker for the conference was Monica Lewinsky. It seemed to be a controversial decision going in to the conference, but she blew us away with her speech. She discussed how when she was our age, she became patient zero of cyberbullying via the internet. It was really impressive to hear her own story for the first time, but also turned it into a learning experience for all of us. Not only did we come to understand her scandal in a new light, we truly grasped the destructive power of the internet and the importance of protecting each other from the hate that can spread through the internet.

5. How has the conference inspired you in your own career?

The conference pushed me to re-examine my story and where I want that story to go. I met peers and professionals who have pushed boundaries and exceeded expectations in ways that were unprecedented both for their field and their age group. It reminded me both of how far I have come and how far I have to go to be able to make the same level of impact. I felt motivated to reexamine the opportunities before me when I returned to work and began seeking out new experiences for myself that would push me further.
