The AIESEC Life Board of Directors would like to formally introduce Maggie Gisel, as the new Executive Director & President, who will be taking the reins on June 1st. Maggie is a graduate from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a consummate volunteer event planner and fundraiser, which provides a perfect foundation for this position.

"Maggie will be a tremendous asset to take the lead for our alumni organization. Her creativity and leadership on the 60th fundraising effort, experience with large events, and coordinating volunteers will be an ideal combination for guiding us in the coming years. She is a dedicated, competent, and energetic individual which will serve her well in this role. I'm confident she will do a fabulous job, and wish her great success." Daniele Lea, the current Executive Director and President for AIESEC Life.

Maggie joined AIESEC Colorado and spent time as the VP Marketing and LCP, before moving on to the National Committee as the NCEC (88-89). She had a six-month traineeship in Bangkok, Thailand.  Maggie moved to Hong Kong and was a Director with The Economist Conferences for five years. She's now ready to take on this new challenge and excited to connect with fellow alumni and forge new paths for AIESEC Life. Of her time in AIESEC, Maggie says:

“Please describe AIESEC in five words.”  This question was asked at the 1987/88 National Conference when Jeremy Leonard was running for Student Director and his reply has always stuck with me. He said, “AIESEC is simply human potential”. How simple, yet how prophetic those five words were and still are. AIESEC has had such a huge impact on my life, my outlook, my friendships and my career. Through AIESEC, I experienced international travel while a student at CU Boulder. I had the thrill of working for AIESEC US  -  living in New York City for one glorious and crazy year, partnering with a team of people whom I love and deeply respect. An AIESEC alumni helped connect me with the opportunity for global work experience in Hong Kong, where I worked and lived for nearly 5 years. I count my AIESEC friends as some of the closest people in my life, and I know I am not unique in this way. When AIESEC unleashes its human potential, we truly do amazing things - as a group, as individuals, as members of a global community."

Most recently Maggie spent the last decade working with Disney Animation Studios in production management and communications, and with a small independent film studio producing documentary films and animation books. She is ready to take on this new role and shared this:

"The position of executive director for AIESEC Life will allow me to use my many years of experience managing projects, working with volunteers, connecting people, building relationships, creating programs and raising funds to help an organization that I love and admire. Thanks to my predecessors, and its boards of directors, AIESEC Life has an incredibly strong foundation and is one of the most stable and active alumni associations in the AIESEC international community.  My goal is to build on this foundation and to continue to find ways to help it grow and thrive. AIESEC Life is driven by committed alumni and strives to offer services that benefit our members as well as current LC members. There are so many ways that individuals can get involved and benefit from AIESEC Life.  I want to spread that message and help connect people so that we can all achieve our AIESEC alumni potential."

Maggie, I'm so confidant after reading the information about your background and proven abilities that you will bring not only excellence, but a true AIESEC heart to the role as Executive Director and President. You will be standing on the shoulders of one who has served AIESEC Life exceedingly well in Daniele, for whom we are all grateful. May your leadership be blessed and supported in the coming years by all of us privileged enough to be AIESECers.

Welcome to your new role with AIESEC. As a student Organisation, with students becoming Alumni every year. Because of the changes occurring every year, it may be easiest to “capture” alumni within their initial AIESEC time. Perhaps as a new ED, you will create a travel itinerary for your first year and coordinate with the AIESEC chapters to publicize it well in advance, using “Eventbrite or another application to send out notice and repeat reminders to current and past AIESEC members. Best Wishes on your new challenges.
