Every year current and past members of AIESEC come together to reflect on the past and aspire for the future. This year was no different, apart from the fact that it marked the 70th Anniversary of AIESEC, seventy years of developing leaders for peace in the world.

With over 800 delegates from over 123 countries, the joint AIESEC and AIESEC Alumni International Congress (AAIC) was an outstanding showcase of leadership in action, full of education, networking, professional exchange, cultural events and an abundance of AIESEC spirit.

During the Congress, we had an opportunity to meet with some of the founding members of AIESEC and other nominees who have contributed to peace, recognizing them as a part of our 70 Peacebuilders.

Alex Tichy, the current President of AIESEC Alumni International (AAI), with the Executive Board (EB), shared their vision of the future and reviewed the three pillars that AAI was founded on: Alumni to Alumni, Alumni to AIESEC and Alumni to the World. The EB also confirmed the release schedule of the new AAI Website and AlumNet, during the fourth quarter of 2018.

The current and president-elect of AIESEC International (AI), Abdulaah and Fadell, presented a new AI strategy to decouple the core of AI. There will be an oversight body with multiple different products underneath, including global internship program, global volunteer program and youth speak, managed separately, with the potential of having other new products. Both PAIs acknowledged that there is an opportunity to introduce the membership to an alumni transition program.

AAIC featured a number of alumni talks covering a wide range of topics, including emotional leadership, cultural intelligence, life and fear. In support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), there were examples of past alumni contributions.  There was agreement to make a deliberate effort to globally coordinate a systematic approach for the alumni organizations to initiate and capture specific programs in support of the SDGs, and in partnership with the LC/MCs around the world.

Overall, the AAIC remains a great platform for AIESEC leadership across the member and alumni organizations, as well as within the alumni organization, to connect, align and strategize to ensure the sustainability of the organization.  More importantly, AAIC inspires action supporting peace and fulfillment of human potential. The location of IC and AAIC in 2019 will be Sri Lanka.
