AIESEC 60th Anniversary how did that weekend go by so fast?

Many of us had that similar post conference withdrawal and commented on it in social media (which is new for some of us this time around).  It was an amazing weekend of connections, energy, inspiration and momentum.  It felt quite normal to speak to friends we had not seen for 10 or 20 years.  There were over 290 attendees comprised of students, alumnus and national staff.  We raised over $63k in pledges that will support AIESEC US and directly help students attend conferences where we know they make the biggest difference in leadership development. In addition, we raised $36,500k in pledges for the JoAnn Boland fund that directly impacts AIESEC Life support of the next generation of AIESEC leadership going to international conferences.

The agenda was full of excellent speakers who shared their expertise.   Executive Coaching by David Pollay whom all of us could have listened to for another hour on how to be a better coach for ourselves and our employees.  Sustainability with Mark Stell who is making a difference in Portland and Tanzania communities with his coffee company, Portland Roasting Coffee.  Plus, we had Henry Hutcheson speak about Entrepreneurship and how you can develop the “chops” to move forward despite failures and the unknown.  We also had the opportunity to hear about the state of AIESEC International, AIESEC US, AIESEC Life and AIESEC Alumni International and gain insight how we can become more involved at any level.

Era Gatherings, allowing the different generations to mix it up and network along with students, were in the afternoon. It was a good opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.  There was a thoughtful alumnus who brought photo albums (remember those?) with some great pictures of years past.

The Gala evening kicked-off with our fearless emcee for the event, Diane King Hall, who led us through our keynote speakers, Robin Hauser and Dariusz Pacuszki.  They inspired us with their stories, one a documentary film maker of The Code and women in technology and the other an entrepreneur of a new vodka brand while still having a full-time job at Yahoo.  Our local alumni from Chicago brought it home with an auctioneer performance that may catapult him to a new career, thanks to Joe Campagna for bringing his best to the night with lots of humor and incentives for giving back to the organization.

The conversations went late into the night and down to the lobby until the lights came on.  It was a memorable event and hopefully we can have one sooner than 10 years from now!
